Questions Landscaping Operators Ask
Several of these answers are 'no' or 'not yet'. That is deliberate — the first useful test of a platform is whether it will admit to a limit.
Last updated .
The three answers most operators want first. Volume: we will not quote one, because we have not produced one, and a monthly figure in a seasonal trade would be misleading even if we had. Exclusivity: not available, because we cannot deliver it. Ranking: does not exist, so it cannot be bought. Everything below is elaboration on those.
| What operators ask about | Where this stands today |
|---|---|
| Lead volume | No number quoted, because none has been produced. |
| Seasonal reporting | By month when it exists. No annual average presented as a monthly expectation. |
| Maintenance vs installation | Separated on the enquiry form and in any introduction. |
| Choosing which services you receive | Yours to state. Twelve services, not one category. |
| Shared or resold enquiries | Never. One enquiry, one introduction, with consent first. |
| Pricing | Nothing in place to charge for. Published when it exists. |
| Area exclusivity | Not available — there is no volume to make exclusive. |
| Paid ranking or featured placement | Does not exist, so it cannot be bought. |
| Company profile pages | None published, for anyone, paid or unpaid. |
| Licence checks | Status checked against state licensing boards; identity from public records. |
| Applicator licences and insurance | Not confirmed with agencies or carriers yet, and named as open. |
| Call tracking and attribution | Not in place yet. Form attribution is. |
| Advertising inventory | None, and none for sale. |
How many leads will I get per month?
We will not quote you a number. HyreYard is a new site with matching still in development and no contracted companies, so any figure we gave you would be a forecast wearing the clothes of a commitment. And in this trade a monthly figure is the wrong shape anyway: volume moves with the season, so a number quoted in June and delivered in February is a number that was never true. If a volume guarantee is what you need right now, we are the wrong conversation.
What happens to volume in the off-season?
Enquiry volume falls in the off-season, exactly as your own does. What we will not do is average it across twelve months and present that as what you should expect, because the average describes neither the peak nor the shoulder. When there is anything to report, it will be reported month by month and across a full cycle before either of us draws a conclusion from it.
Can I take installation work without the mowing enquiries?
Yes. The enquiry form separates recurring maintenance from installation and build work, and separates the twelve services this site covers. Tell us what you want and that is what an introduction is matched against. Selling those as one product is how a hardscape builder ends up quoting weekly mowing.
Do you sell the same enquiry to multiple companies?
No. One enquiry, one introduction, with the homeowner’s agreement first. We do not run an auction, we do not resell, and we do not syndicate. The rules are published on our lead quality standard precisely so you can hold us to them.
What does it cost?
Nothing is in place to charge for yet. When pricing exists it will be published on the site rather than negotiated differently with each company, and it will not be structured as a minimum spend against volume we have not produced — least of all one that runs through an off-season.
Can I buy exclusivity in my area?
Not today, because we cannot deliver it — we have no volume to make exclusive. Selling area exclusivity on a network this size would be selling you an empty room. If exclusivity ever makes sense it will be because there is something in the area to be exclusive about.
Can I pay to rank higher or be featured?
There is no ranking and no featured placement. We publish no company profiles, ratings or rankings at all, so there is nothing to buy a position in. Any commercial arrangement is disclosed and stays out of the editorial pages.
Will you write a profile page about my company?
No. We publish no company profiles, for anyone, paid or unpaid. A profile implies a verification and a comparison we have not performed, and a page of profiles is a directory — which is a different business from the one we are in.
What do you require from a company?
Whatever licence your state actually requires for the work you do, current; a pesticide applicator licence if you apply chemicals commercially; general liability and workers’ compensation; a written scope before a price; drainage addressed rather than left silent; and a clear statement of which services and which kind of work you want. That is a floor, not a distinction.
You know most states do not license landscapers at all. So what are you actually checking?
Exactly that, and we say so rather than implying a national verification we cannot perform. Today we check licence status against state licensing boards and company identity and operating history from public records. We do not yet confirm applicator licences with state agencies, we do not confirm insurance certificates with carriers, and we collect no homeowner reviews. Those three are open and named as open on how we vet. A listing on somebody else’s directory closes none of them.
Will you call my company "trusted" or "certified"?
No. We do not use the words trusted, vetted, approved, certified or recommended about any company, because they make a promise about verification we have not earned the right to make. When a check has been done we name the check and its date.
What happens if an enquiry is wrong for me?
Tell us with the reason — out of area, wrong service, access that made the job unviable, duplicate, unreachable, pricing a future season. We treat it as a defect in our qualification, not as your problem, and it is logged. We cannot fix what we are not told about, and a platform with no defect route will keep sending the same defect.
Half the leads I have bought elsewhere changed price the moment I saw the site. Why would this be different?
Because access and site conditions are asked before the introduction rather than discovered on the driveway. Gate width, steps, a slope, standing water, heavy clay, existing paving to lift — those are the things that move a landscaping price after the fact, so they are captured on the form and they travel with the enquiry. It will not eliminate revision. It should remove the category of revision that is really a qualification failure.
Do you require me to change my prices or contract terms?
No. We ask that a scope be written down before a price and that maintenance terms be stated plainly — what is included per visit, the term, and how it ends. We have no view on what those terms should be, and we are not in a position to have one.
Your site tells homeowners to interrogate my quote. Why would I want that traffic?
Because of which customer it produces. Someone who arrives having read what a base specification is, why drainage is priced separately, and what a plant warranty actually covers is a customer who will not be surprised by your proposal. That is harder for an operator quoting a patio without stating a base depth and easier for one who specifies the job properly. We are not neutral about which of those we would rather introduce people to.
Do you do call tracking?
Not yet. Tracking numbers are not in place, which means neither of us can currently attribute a phone call to a channel. It is on the list precisely because saying "we think it works" is not an argument either of us should accept.
Can I advertise on the site?
No. There is no advertising inventory and we are not selling any. If that changes it will be disclosed and it will be visibly separate from editorial.
What is in this for you?
We expect to earn revenue by introducing homeowners to landscaping companies, and that is disclosed on about HyreYard. It does not shape what the site says about base specifications, contracts, warranties or chemical applications, because the moment it did, the site would stop being worth reading and the introductions would stop being worth having.
Still worth a conversation?
Then email hello@hyreyard.com or register your interest. Tell us where you work, which services you want, and whether you are after maintenance, installation or both. A short honest conversation about what is live beats a long one about what is planned.
